So, swimsuits with sleeves….that’s a thing? As you can see above, yes, Friends, yes it is a thing! And it’s glorious! I have mentioned sleeved swimsuits in some previous posts (here, here, and there it at least one option on my shop page). Around the time I started this blog (maybe a few months prior), I discovered sleeved swimsuits. Before that, I don’t think I really knew they existed, but I was thrilled to find out! I think what first brought this revelation to my life was…Beyoncé. Yes, Beyoncé!!! The same Beyoncé who made the best music video of all time per Kanye (he was right). She was on vacation last year wearing a long sleeved printed swimsuit (here) and she looked amazing! After I saw it, I was determined to find my own sleeved swimsuit. When looking, I was surprised at how many options were out there. I ended up buying this suit and taking it with me on a trip to Punta Cana, DR, as you can see here. I decided around then that someday, when I started my blog, I would do a post on sleeved swimsuits. Although I somewhat put this idea in the back of my mind, recently I bought an amazing Ankara swimsuit that actually looks pretty nice on me. I can’t wait to wear it! I had big goals of taking pics of myself frolicking in the swimsuit at some exotic location, while using that opportunity to let you know about the wonders of a sleeved swimsuit, but alas…LIFE! I ain’t goin nowhere anytime soon that I know of!! But I don’t want summer to pass by without sharing these options with you! I care too much to see you wearing t-shirts over your swimsuits or only hanging out at the pool/beach in your cover-up. No need, ladies!! Get yourself a swimsuit with sleeves!!
There are so many different kinds of swimsuits with sleeves. Many of them appear to be made for surfers. They are called rash guards, which apparently have sleeves (both long and short) intended to protect the wearer against rashes caused by abrasion or by sunburn from extended exposure to the sun (so says Wikipedia). Rash guard swimsuits tend to have an athletic look, but there are some that are in certain colors and prints that are more fashionable and suited for non-surfers as well. And beyond rash guard swimsuits, there are many cute ruffle and flutter sleeve, short sleeve, and off shoulder options!! There is a variety to choose from based on your comfort level. You can find a one piece (even one with ruching) if you don’t care for your midsection or if you want to be more modest or get a two-piece if you love bearing your tummy! Just find what makes you comfortable!!
