Getting Creative

Dress: Target // Shoes: Amazon // Bag: Similar // Earrings: c/o Red Dress

Hi, Friends and Sleevenistas!  Confession:  I don’t think I’m particularly creative.  I often hear influencers referred to as creatives.  I guess because we create content, but I think I often lack creativity.  I’ve told y’all before in previous posts that I often look to Pinterest or Instagram for inspiration on styling certain pieces.  One thing I’ve noticed from a couple of influencers I follow is their penchant to bend, fold, or tie certain clothing pieces to create an entirely new look.  It made me start thinking of how to style my own clothes differently, and that’s how this look came to be.

So, here’s the story: I got this dress at Target awhile ago because I was drawn to the color.  I love how pretty and green it is, and I love the button detail.  However, when I got home and tried it on, I hated it.  In particular, I hated the sleeves.  Yes, the Queen of Sleeves hated these sleeves!  They were boxy and not particularly flattering.  And on top of that, the fabric is not comfortable!  I almost didn’t post this look at all because I didn’t want y’all to go out and buy it since I’m not a fan, but that’s up to you!  Apparently, some people like this dress.  Anyway, back to my story.  I intended to return it, but at some point, I removed the tags and I couldn’t find them anymore and so much time had passed, I figured I was just stuck with it.  So, naturally, I tried to figure out how I could make it work, and I decided to get creative! I figured since the top was my major problem with the dress, maybe I could figure out how to style it differently.  So, I unbuttoned the buttons and was thrilled to find that I was able to fold one side in to create an off-the-shoulder look that I actually love out of a dress I don’t love.

Do you like how it turned out?!  I paired it with my new white pumps.  I love these pumps, y’all.  I’ve been wanting white pumps for years and finally grabbed this under $40 pair from Amazon!  In case you couldn’t tell, my inspo for this color pairing was repping Nigeria with green white green. 🙂

Have you tried to get creative with your wardrobe?  Tell me about it in the comments! Have a great week, and thanks so much for reading!
