The Houstonian Hotel, A Hidden Houston Getaway

*Stay courtesy of the Houstonian.  All opinions are my own.*

Hi, Friends and Sleevenistas!  Y’all know I’ve been all about that staycation life lately.  It’s so nice to be able to go on vacation in your own city.  Last month, I enjoyed a wonderful weekend stay at the Houstonian Hotel.  I had honestly never been to the Houstonian.  I’d heard of it but wasn’t even sure where it was.  I knew it was in the Post Oak/Galleria area, but when I actually drove there, I was surprised.  It’s like an oasis hidden in the middle of a bustling city.

This guy is waiting for you as you enter the hotel.  He’s so chill.

From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel very special.  I checked in with Cody at the front desk…he was my go-to guy for my entire stay.  He was always so nice and welcoming and happy to answer all of my questions.  (At some point, he even let me in on a sneak peek of a renovated room they are testing out.  It was GORGEOUS and very modern!).  I would describe the decor of the Houstonian as vintage and rustic.  It almost feels like you’re at a fancy ranch.

I was escorted to my room by one of the managers, Terry, and Tesfaye, the nicest bellman I’ve ever met.  Apparently, Tes, as he is affectionately known, has been at the Houstonian for many years.  He told me all about the history of the hotel and showed me all the details about my room – where the safe was and how to use it, the deets on the minibar, and tips about ways I could better enjoy my stay.

I stayed on the concierge floor, where they had breakfast available in the mornings, happy hour in the early evenings (open bar!!!), and a nightcap later in the evenings (with desserts and dessert wines/liquor), and there was coffee and water available all day!  It was really nice to have.  No need for the minibar when you’re on this floor! This was the breakfast spread one morning.  It was different every day.

One of the best things about staying at the Houstonian is the access to the Houstonian Club that’s free for guests.  At the club, there are two pools!  One for recreation and one to swim laps.  The gym in the club is GORGEOUS.  I didn’t get pics in there because I didn’t want to just be taking pictures of random people without their permission.  The Houstonian Club also has a full-sized basketball court, tennis courts, an indoor track, and so much more!  There are also a ton of different group classes throughout the day. I was keen on taking a yoga class, but I didn’t pack the proper clothes/shoes to go to the gym. Womp womp.  Next time, I’m definitely coming prepared!

Across the way from the Houstonian Club is the serene Trellis Spa.  I took a tour, and it looked so peaceful there.  It’s been on my list of spas to check out in the Houston area and even more so now that I’ve done a walkthrough!  It looked like a spa from a movie. Lol.

Apparently, the Houstonian is a very popular place for weddings.  I saw no less than 2 weddings during my 2-night stay.   It makes sense to me because the grounds are so lovely that the wedding pictures must be spectacular!  There is a gazebo, a swing, an azalea trail in the spring, and a gorgeous oak tree that lights up at night.

The grounds are so beautiful and relaxing with several places to stop, sit, and relax.  There’s also a walking trail.

My favorite place inside of the hotel aesthetically was the beautiful bar.  Unfortunately, I didn’t really spend time in the bar since there were free drinks on my floor during happy hour, but I love the decor in there.

Grabbing a drink at the bar.

Near the bar, you can find the Tribute restaurant.  I enjoyed a delicious dinner there on Sunday night, a short rib entree and amazing crab fondue and oysters for appetizers.  It was all so good. I wish I had room for dessert, but alas…I was stuffed!  It was a wonderful dinner.   This wine room at Tribute would be really great for an intimate dinner.  It’s so cool (y’all know how much I love wine!).  After dinner, I walked outside and saw the beautiful oak tree lit up at night.  It was so pretty.

After such an amazing night, I went to bed and woke up excited because….room service!  Honestly, I felt like Kevin in Home Alone 2.  Lol.  I love staying in hotels and ordering room service.  I ordered an awesome breakfast with lots of different options, and it was all yummy. Look how excited I am that room service is coming! Yummmmmmmmmmm!

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay.  The people were very nice and this Houston hideaway has so much to offer that I can’t wait to go back.  Have y’all ever been to the Houstonian Hotel?  If not, make sure to check it out, even if it’s just the restaurant or spa!

Have a great week, and thanks so much for reading!

    1. Thank you so much! Some of the pictures, like the indoor pictures of me, were taken by my photographer, Jerren Willis, and the rest were on my phone.
