Hi, Friends!! Apologies for being missing in action lately.   I can’t believe I missed a whole week of posting on the blog!  I’m so sorry! I’ve just had a lot going on lately, so keeping up with blogging has been difficult.  But I’m doing my best to get back on track!!   I hope to have new content to you soon.   I had a photoshoot scheduled on Saturday, but ended up needing to cancel because I got randomly sick…crazy.  I’m feeling better now, so hopefully, I’ll be able to get it together to get those new looks to you ASAP!  You’ll love them (I hope. lol).  I also have a giveaway coming! I’ll be giving away a super fun Ankara top, so stay tuned for that too!

Anyhoo, to make up for not posting last week, I have a super long post for you today! Lol. Today we are continuing from my last post about remixing a dress.  In my last post, I remixed one dress in 4 different ways and gave you 5 tips on different ways to remix a dress.  This post shows you more examples of how I have remixed some dresses I own using the tips from the last post.  And despite the fact that I have had some of these dresses for awhile, most of them are still available for purchase!  I’ll go through each look and tell you which tips I used.  Here is a recap of the 5 tips:

Tip #1: Wear a skirt over your dress to create a brand new look!

Tip #2: Add strategic accessories to create a corporate look!

Tip #3: Make the dress casual by adding sneakers or other casual shoes!

Tip #4: Wear the dress as is, but add some glamour with metallic details!

Tip #5: Use these tips and your imagination to challenge yourself to try something new every time you re-wear a dress!!

The first looks above with the striped dress are clear examples of Tips 3 and 5.  In the look on the left, I added fun black and white accessories and a petticoat to make the skirt fuller and create a bit of a vintage look.  In the second look, I didn’t add the petticoat or the belt that came with the dress, but instead, I added a denim jacket and sneakers to create a casual look.  I wore that look to brunch.  All the rest of the tips will work with this dress too.  Throwing an A-line skirt over it would work very well (Tip #1), also adding a cardigan or short blazer over it for work would be lovely because the dress is already a great, work appropriate length (Tip #2), and this dress would also look great with some silver accessories if I was looking to go glam (Tip #4)!

Look 3 – Shoes: Calvin Klein // Ankara Tie: Shiraba // Clutch: Similar

This is an example of Tips 2, 4, and 5.  In the first look, I layered a polka dot shirt underneath and added a belt to give the dress a corporate look (Tip #2).  In the middle look, I used metallic accessories to add glamour (Tip #4).  In the final look, I added some fun accessories to wear this dress in yet another way (Tip #5).  The ways of wearing a dress like this are endless.  It can also be dressed down with sneakers for Tip #3 or a skirt can be thrown over it for Tip #1.

Look 2 – Black Bag: Similar // Red Bow Pumps: Asos // Skirt: Charlotte Russe // Jacket: Similar // Belt: Similar

Look 3 – Pumps: Similar // Earrings: Francesca’s

These looks are a great example of Tips 1 and 5.  In the middle look, I added a tulle skirt over the dress to create a brand new look (Tip #1).  The outside looks are good examples of Tip #5 and trying something new every time you re-wear the dress.  As you can see, I switched up the shoes, the accessories (belt vs. no belt), and even the hairstyle.

Looks 1 and 3 – Shoes: Similar // Bag: Similar // Jacket: Similar

Look 2- Sweater: Similar // Shoes: Similar

This final example uses Tips 2 and 5.  I wore the look in the middle to work.  I added the sleeveless (gasp!) cardigan to make the dress more appropriate for work (Tip #2).  I personally wouldn’t wear the dress by itself to work, but there are women that can!  I am just not one of those women.  It’s a bit too fitted for me and my shape.  The look on the right with the jacket is another way that the dress might work for the office or you can substitute a long blazer.

So what are your thoughts about these examples?  Have you tried remixing any of the dresses in your wardrobe yet?  Let me know in the comments!

Have a great week, and thanks so much for reading!

  1. These are nice but what if you want to change the top of your dress i.e. you are happy with the bottom but not the top. Also note that I don’t want to wear a jacket. I am difficult right? I am thinking wearing a buttoned up fitted cardigan might work. Would love to see your suggestions.

    1. Thanks! Changing the top can be difficult, but it really all depends on the style of the dress. If the top is fitted you could get away with wearing a pullover top or button up shirt over it. A cardigan, like you suggested, works well too! If you want to send me a picture of the dress, I can see if I can come up with other suggestions. nneka@queenofsleeves.com
