Yessssssssssssssssssssss! I finally finished it! My work style basics post!!  I’m super thrilled since I’ve been promising this post for several weeks now (Here, Here, and Here), and I’ve been working on it for awhile.  Anyway, hi, Friends!  I hope y’all are having a great week!

Today, we are talking about what I think are some great work basics, and everything in the pic above is under $100.  The suggested pieces are either things that are currently part of my work basics or things that I think should be.   Work basics are pieces that are versatile, so you can wear them in a lot of different combinations.  They almost create a capsule wardrobe.  For example, the polka dot top can be layered under or over both of the dresses (examples Here and Here), the blazer and cardigans can be worn with any of the dresses or bottoms, the shoes and bags are interchangeable, etc. etc. Let’s discuss these pieces, shall we?

  1. Cardigans in several colors and styles! I already said in my last post that cardigans are key, and I meant it!  I have at least 10 cardigans in different styles (v necks, crew necks, long, short, 3/4 sleeve, long sleeve) and colors.  It’s so easy to grab one that coordinates with whatever I’ve decided to wear for the day and pull my look together.
  2. A good blazer!  For those who work in a professional office (and those that don’t), blazers are great because they can level up any look.
  3. Flats! They are a must for me.  I wear flats nearly every day.  The black bow flats are basically my everyday shoes.  I also have a fun leopard pair, like the one above, to add some fun to some of my looks.  Leopard is a great print to mix with other prints.  It’s a neutral, to me?  Picture the polka dot top or the plaid blazer, black pants, and the leopard shoes. Cute, right?
  4. Versatile Pants! I’ve said before MANY times that my Banana Republic sloan pants are my everyday work pants.  I love the shape, and they’re super comfortable because they have some stretch to them. The slim cut and ankle length are very chic and versatile, so most tops, blazers, or cardigan combos look great with it.
  5. Heels and/or wedges!  I love wearing heels, but not to work because they are generally not comfortable.  Insert wedges!! I currently have these wedges, and I’ve been on the hunt for a comfortable pair of heels I can wear to work.  I want to try the Naturalizer brand (pictured above) to see if those pumps will be extra comfortable.  Other options to try for comfort are block heels or a lower heel.  Most of the people I see wearing heels at work every day wear lower heels.
  6. A dress with a classic shape!  Think of these dresses as a canvas!  You can wear them as is and look super chic or you can pair them with infinite combinations of necklaces, cardigans, and pumps/flats.  Wear a printed cardigan or a colorful necklace or bright shoes! Have some fun, y’all. Not included in the pic above are shift dresses!  Those are great too for the office.
  7. A classic skirt in a neutral color! A pencil skirt is a great and necessary basic.  One of my former coworkers would wear a solid colored t-shirt with a pencil skirt most days and she looked great!  I don’t know if I have the confidence for that, but I might try it today! I’m likely to throw on a cardigan though for my version. Lol.  Picture all the top combinations with the pencil skirt in the pic above…so fab.
  8. A necklace! Well, I think you should have several.  As far as basics go, pearls are perfect.

What are your thoughts on these work basics??  Is there anything I missed?  I have dreams of doing a future post where I will focus on fun things to add to your work wardrobe (like colorful pants or prints to mix).  In case you missed my last post giving work style advice, make sure to check it out!

Have a great week, and thanks so much for reading!
