1 Dress in 4 Different Ways + 5 Tips on Remixing a Dress!

Tip #1: Wear a skirt over your dress to create a brand new look!

Depending on the style of your dress (anything shorter and fitted around the waist is an ideal candidate), you can switch it up by just adding a skirt over it!  This is one of my favorite ways to remix a dress.  I guess you have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of this post to see what the dress looks like by itself.   But in this first look, I simply added a grey skirt over the dress.  When putting this tip into practice, you can also add a belt to make it look more like a completely different dress, rather than a skirt and top.

Tip #2: Add strategic accessories to create a corporate look!

I believe you can turn most dresses of reasonable length into work appropriate dresses with the right accessories.  In this look, I added over the knee boots, which resulted in showing less leg, then I accessorized it with a chic leopard scarf, a classic grey peacoat, and grey bag.  This look has a lot of monochrome, which I’ve been a fan of lately…maybe because the dress is grey.  But adding a pop of color to it would be a great idea too.  Grey pairs well with just about every color.    For this tip, you could also add tights and heels (or flats) and a long blazer or a cape or a long vest or sweater to make it work appropriate.  Even the hairstyle says corporate.

Tip #3: Make the dress casual by adding sneakers or other casual shoes!

So in the last tip, we dressed it up to make it more work appropriate.  In this look, we are dressing it down and going casual.  Most dresses can be made casual simply by wearing them with cute tennis shoes/sneakers.  In this case, I threw on a leather jacket, so this is a casual look with an edge.  Another way I’m likely to wear the dress, maybe even this weekend, is to throw my hair in a topknot then throw on my grey chuck taylors for a cute, casual/chill look.  Depending on the weather, I could also add a denim jacket or white sneakers or sandals in the spring/summer.  So many options!!

Tip #4: Wear the dress as is, but add some glamour with metallic details!

Oh hey, hottie! Ok, so this last dress isn’t grey like in the other pics, but it’s just a different color of the same dress.  I have the dress in 2 colors so far, and I want to add a black one to my wardrobe!  This final look demonstrates how you can dress it up for a night out or a date night!  The easiest way to do that is to add metallic accessories!  I added a gold bag, gold shoes, and a multi-colored metallic necklace for some fun!  I also had to add that pop of color to my lips.  Who wouldn’t want to go out on a date with me looking all glamorous and what not…am I right?? Lol.

Tip #5: Use these tips and your imagination to challenge yourself to try something new every time you re-wear a dress!!

I’ve said it before on the blog several times that when I repeat an outfit, I don’t like to wear it the same way I did the last time, even if it’s just switching my hairstyle or accessories.  I could wear it with the same exact shoes and accessories, but I guarantee you my hair will be different! Lol.  Or my makeup or something.

I hope this post inspires you to start looking at your wardrobe for all of its possibilities instead of its limitations.  Sometimes you may not need new clothes, you just need to remix the clothes you have and maybe add some fun accessories!  Every look in this post has different accessories…different necklaces or a scarf, different shoes, different jackets or no jacket, different bags, a skirt…but it’s just one dress!  I might do a follow up post on this topic because I have more examples!  Let’s switch it up, Friends!!

What do you think of these tips?  Are they something you’re going to try? If so, which ones?  Let’s chat in the comments below!  Have a great weekend, and thanks so much for reading!!
