Happy Friday!! This is basically what I wear to work every day – black pants, a top (often with a statement necklace), and these JCrew bow flats.   I work in a business casual office, so this basic look works for me!  Obviously, I switch it up from time to time, but having a basic, go-to look makes getting ready in the morning really easy.   One of these days I’m going to do a more in-depth post about the benefits of having a work uniform – a basic outfit that you can vary slightly every day to create different looks.  I have a coworker that wears all black every single day.  Every now and then she inserts color into her outfit, but generally, she wears black pants, a black top, and a black sweater/jacket.  Every. Day. It’s brilliant.   It’s such a perfect blank canvas.  I’m going to do an experiment one week where I wear the same black top and pants, then make slight changes every day to create different looks, and you guys can tell me whether or not you’d know I was wearing the same thing every day.  That will be fun!  There are so many different ways to work with a blank canvas – colored cardigans, blazers, bold jewelry, shoes, etc.  But, I digress.

So, back to this look.  As I mentioned above, my basic work look consists of black pants, black flats, and a top.   I’ve talked about or worn these black pants in several previous posts (here, here, here, here), so I won’t go on and on about them today.  But I will go on and on about these JCrew bow flats (less than $50!)!!  They are one of my favorite pairs of shoes.  I meant to take a close up picture of them, but I forgot.  Oops.  Anyway, they are super chic thanks to the pointed toe, big bow, and patent leather.  They have enough flair to add personality to any outfit.  Sometimes flats can look blah, but there are some that can really elevate a look, like these ones.  I’m actually on the hunt to find more such flats.  I want to get a bright red pair!  I’m eyeing these ones.  Anyway, today I’m keeping the rest of my basic work look simple with a black and white striped top, minimal jewelry, and a pop of color on my lips.   Do you have a basic work look? How do you style it?? Have a great weekend, and thanks so much for reading!!
