Hi, Friends and Sleevenistas! Today, I’m calling all my single ladies to have a chat about a certain “holiday” coming up in 2 days.  I feel like I have a love/hate relationship with Valentine’s Day.  I love the idea of it, but I have been single on most Valentine’s Days.  Even if you are in a relationship, it’s a day that can create a lot of expectations and drama if not handled with care.  But today I’m not talking to those of you that are in a relationship, so you guys are on your own and can just enjoy this pretty pink dress (consider wearing this to a date night on Valentine’s Day. It comes in 14 colors and is under $24) and keep it moving.

But for my single peeps, Valentine’s Day can be tough.  You spend the day watching everyone, but you (seemingly) getting loved and adored, while you are just there…alone…watching.  Lol.  Well, don’t fret!  Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be Single Awareness Day.  It can be a day that you show love to the most important person in your life…YOU!  So, here are a couple of ideas for things to do on Valentine’s Day and ways to show yourself some love.

  1. Look great! –  I don’t know about you, but the better I look, the better I feel.  So, on Valentine’s Day, instead of rolling to work (or school or wherever) doing the bare minimum, put on your cutest outfit.  Throw on some makeup, do your hair, or whatever you need to do to feel good that day!
  2. Buy yourself a gift! – I’m not saying spend a bunch of money on yourself (unless you have it within your budget to spend), but treat yourself to that necklace you’ve been eyeing or that dress you’re obsessed with or the shoes you’ve been wanting.  If you love flowers and hate seeing everyone else get them and not you, then buy yourself some flowers that you can enjoy at home (don’t be one of those people that buys flowers for themselves just to flex on their coworkers.  You are better than that. lol.)
  3. Indulge in some self-care! –  Spend time in prayer, then go to the gym in the morning!  Then after work, enjoy a spa day! Get yourself a mani/pedi, facial, or a massage.  I’ve already scheduled an appointment at Hiatus Spa, and I’m looking forward to enjoying a nice, relaxing facial on Valentine’s Day.  And there will definitely be some wine (if you recall, Wine is My Valentine)!  If you ever want to check out Hiatus Spa, you can use my code NNEKAHIATUS20 to enjoy 20% off your service.
  4. Do something you enjoy! – Along the lines of treating yourself and indulging in self-care, do something that makes you happy that day!  Do you love museums? Go to the museum on Valentine’s Day!  Any shows or concerts that night that you might be interested in seeing? Or a basketball game or other sporting event?  Whatever you would enjoy, go and do that!
  5. Eat and drink your favorite things! –  Let me let you in on a little secret…calories don’t count on Valentine’s Day! Head over to your favorite restaurant and pick up your favorite dinner (to go…do not subject yourself to all the couples craziness that day) and grab your favorite bottle of wine (or soda or whatever floats your boat), then go home and enjoy it along with your favorite shows or a movie you’ve been wanting to see (Netflix and chill with yourself!) or the book you’ve been meaning to read.
  6. Spend time with loved ones! – If your bestie is also single or a cousin or whoever you love spending time with, invite them over!  Have a girls night in.  Make dinner and dessert (bake cookies or cupcakes!) together and enjoy the fruits of your labor, while sipping on some sweet wine!

These are just some examples of some things you can do, but the bottom line is to enjoy yourself!  Eventually, you will be in a relationship with someone else, but for now, cultivate your relationship with yourself!  In fact, Valentine’s Day would be a great day to stay off of social media entirely and just spend quality time with your number one fan…YOU!

Have a great week, and thanks so much for reading!
